Tigers Win a Pair of Matches in Men’s Tennis

The Marion Military Institute men's tennis team competed in an away match against Huntingdon College on Friday afternoon and in a home contest versus East Central Community College on Saturday afternoon.  In Friday's match, the Tigers defeated the Hawks of Huntingdon College, 9-0, and in Saturday's game, the Tigers scalped the visiting Warriors of East Central Community College, 7-2.

Montgomery, AL—The Tigers blanked the Hawks at the George S. Gibbs Tennis Center, 9-0.  Huntingdon College forfeited two matches at No. 3 doubles and at No. 6 singles to start the day.  Leading 2-0, the Tigers extended their lead to 4-0 by winning the two doubles matches.  Andrew Branicki/Joseph Tanjuatco and Dom Ingram/Austin Taylor won their respective matches by identical 8-3 scores.  The Tigers then swept singles play to complete the 9-0 win.  Branicki (6-0, 6-0), Dreher (6-4, 6-0), Tanjuatco (6-0, 6-4), Ingram (6-0, 6-0), and Isaac Magee (6-1, 6-2) all won in straight sets.

Marion, AL—The Tigers continued their torrid play into Saturday, conquering the Warriors, 7-2.  In doubles play, the Tigers scored two points at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles.  Andrew Branicki and Joseph Tanjuatco produced another stellar doubles performance by downing Christopher Lawrence and Isaac Santitto, 8-2, and Dom Ingram and Austin Taylor paired together to defeat Rhy Elizar and Jacob Gardner, 8-1.  Singles action saw Sean Dreher and Ingram eke out comeback wins.  Dreher edged Santitto, 2-6, 7-6 (4), 10-8, and Ingram clipped Peyton Chaney, 4-6, 7-6 (4), 10-5, in three-set barnburners.  Tanjuatco (6-1, 6-2), Isaac Magee (6-1, 6-3) and Austin Taylor (6-0, 6-3) rounded out the Tiger scoring.

The Tigers return to action on Friday, February 14 when they host Wallace State Community College-Hanceville in a 1:00 p.m. contest.
