MMI Tigers Fly Past Meridian Eagles, 8-1, in Men’s Tennis

Meridian, MS—The Marion Military Institute men's tennis team dominated doubles play at the Northeast Tennis Center on Saturday morning to pick up a quick 3-0 lead on the Meridian Community College Eagles and then continued its torrid play in singles, clinching 5 of the 6 matches contested, to score an 8-1 decision in the first match of the season.

Marion's doubles teams of Andrew Branicki/Joseph Tanjuatco (8-3), William Phillips/Sean Dreher (8-4), and Dom Ingram/Isaac Magee (8-2) produced the first three points of the match with some solid play in all three doubles spots.

In singles action, Branicki beat a lanky lefty from Australia in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3, and Dreher defeated the Bolivian Dieter Gonzalez, 6-0, 6-3.  Tanjuatco (6-3, 6-2), Phillips (6-0, 6-4), and Ingram (6-1, 6-1) closed out the scoring for MMI.

Emmanuel Warner notched a pair of 8-2 wins in exhibition singles.

The Tigers head to Birmingham on Sunday to take on the Panthers of Birmingham-Southern College in an 11:00 a.m. match.
