Matthews and Harris Lead Tigers to Victory in Men’s Tennis

Columbus, MS—The Marion Military Institute Tigers defeated the Owls of Mississippi University for Women in men's tennis on Friday night at Owl Tennis Park. The shorthanded Owl team forfeited matches at No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead heading into the match.  The Tigers added seven more points (five in singles and two in doubles) to take the match, 9-0.

MMI's top two doubles teams (Tom Chairs/Alex Matthews and Dominique Ingram/Nathan Johnsen) allowed only one game in their respective matches.

Chairs at No. 1 singles, Matthews at No. 4 singles, and Jordan Harris at No. 5 singles all won their matches, 6-1, 6-1, to stake MMI to a 7-0 lead.  Ingram (6-0, 6-0) and Johnsen (6-0, 6-1) delivered the final two points for Marion.

The Tigers return to Alabama for a Sunday afternoon match against Gadsden State Community College at the Gadsden Tennis Complex.
