Boussom Swats His Way to ACCC MVP Award

Mobile, AL—Danny Boussom stood tall in more ways than one at the 2018 Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC) tennis tournament on Friday, April 13 at the Mobile Tennis Center. The 6'6" lefty from Goshen, IN, left no doubt as to who the best player in the ACCC was in 2018.  Audible gasps could be heard throughout the stands on numerous occasions during the day and night as Boussom staged a number of incredible performances in both singles and doubles match play, hitting shots that mere mortals couldn't even touch, let alone wallop for breathtaking winners.

Boussom cruised past Jacob Stokes, Coastal Alabama's No. 1 singles player, 6-0, 6-0, on his way to the finals.  In the finals, he faced Wallace State's Cade Pressnell, the defending ACCC MVP from 2017.  Pressnell, known for his tenacious and spirited play, scrambled from the opening point to the last point, chasing down hundreds of balls.  In one exchange after another, both players exhausted the limits of the tennis court and themselves, lunging and twisting and stretching for shots that would have been clear winners against other opponents.  The big lefty's serve and reach eventually took their toll, however, and Boussom came away with an impressive 6-3, 6-1 win.

In doubles play, Boussom and Connor Higginbotham reached the finals by dispatching Coastal Alabama's Stokes and Addison Osborne, 8-3.  In the finals, they met the upstart Gadsden State pair of Bram Kranendonk and Brett Blackburn, who upset the No. 2-seeded team of Pressnell and Luke Chigwidden from Wallace State.  Boussom and Higginbotham stormed to the title, 8-3.

Boussom follows in the footsteps of two former ACCC MVP's from Marion Military Institute—Alex Fioravante in 2012 and Shepherd Newcomb in 2013.
