UWA Tigers Thump MMI Tigers, 9-0, in Men’s Tennis

Livingston, AL—The University of West Alabama men's tennis team punished the visiting Marion Military Institute Tigers, 9-0, in an exhibition match held at the Vaughan Tennis Center on Monday evening.

In doubles action, the MMI Tigers clawed their way back into matches at the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles flights.  The doubles team of Danny Boussom and Connor Higginbotham stood tall before succumbing to the relentless pressure of Henrik Sinkko and Andrii Stratiienko, 8-4.  Chris Lee and Kai Tougas played the best doubles of their match down the stretch, winning the battle by claiming three of the last five games but losing the war, 8-4.

In singles play, the UWA Tigers won all six matches.  Sinkko, Linus Holthey, Erik Nordblom,  Stratiienko, Anton Lof, and Nico Jochomowitz mowed down their MMI Tiger opponents in straight sets.

"UWA is always a very solid and strong DII tennis program," said coach Charles Wright.  "This year, their program will probably achieve greater success than they've experienced in a while.  We went up against a tennis juggernaut tonight.  I was heartened, however, to see the fight in our doubles teams.  I think that doubles—down the road a ways—will wind up being one of our team's great strengths."

The Tigers return to action on Saturday, February 10 when they take on Copiah-Lincoln Community College at the Northeast Tennis Center in Meridian, MS.  The match is slated to begin at 3:00 p.m.
