Tigers Defeat Cardinals, 7-2, in Men’s Tennis to Conclude Fall Exhibition Season

Marion, AL—The MMI Tigers brought their fall exhibition season to a close with a 7-2 win over the visiting Gadsden State Community College Cardinals on Friday afternoon at the Paul B. Anderson Tennis Complex.

The Tigers played crisply and swiftly in their first two doubles matches.  Chris Lee and Kai Tougas flew around the court at No. 1 doubles, dispatching the Gadsden pair of Brett Blackburn and Joel Wester, 8-1.  Isaiah Polk and Connor Higginbotham cruised to an 8-0 win at No. 2 doubles.

In singles play, three of the five match wins for the Tigers went the distance and were settled by super tiebreakers.  Kai Tougas outlasted Clint Brewer, 3-6, 6-3, 11-9; Connor Higginbotham stormed back from a first-set loss to win a tough 4-6, 6-3, 10-4 match; and Quentin Llewellyn prevailed at No. 5 singles, 6-3, 1-6, 10-2.

Chris Lee (6-4, 6-4) and Isaiah Polk (6-3, 6-0) scored the remaining two points of the match for the Tigers.

The Tigers return to action on Saturday, January 27, 2018, when they take on the University of West Alabama in a 2:00 p.m. match at the Howard R. Vaughan Tennis Complex in Livingston.
