Tigers Defeat Cardinals, 7-2, in Men’s Tennis

Gadsden, AL—The Marion Military Institute Tigers pounced on the Cardinals of Gadsden State Community College on a windy Saturday afternoon at the Gadsden Sports Complex, defeating the Cardinals, 7-2.  MMI had to forfeit two matches due to an insufficient number of players.

The Tigers wrested two of the doubles matches from the Cardinals with wins at No. 1 doubles by Barry Booth and Andrew Carey (8-5) and No. 2 doubles by Isaiah Polk and John Hunter (8-3).

The Tigers put five more points on the board in singles play with wins by Danny Boussom (6-0, 6-1), Booth (6-0, 6-1), Polk (6-2, 6-1), Hunter (0-6, 6-2, 10-5), and Carey (7-5, 6-1).

The most dramatic match of the day was John Hunter's clutch come-from-behind victory over Clint Brewer.  Hunter lost the first eight games of the match but fought back to win the next six games to send the match into a third-set super tiebreaker.  Hunter gave up a handful of points to win the super tiebreaker, 10-5.

The Tigers complete their fall season with a 1:00 p.m. match against the Meridian Community College Eagles at the Northeast Tennis Center in Meridian, MS, on Friday, November 4.
