Tigers Tame Two-Time Defending JUCO DIII National Champions, 7-2, in Men’s Tennis

Oxford, GA—The Marion Military Institute Tigers took to the courts on Saturday afternoon to face a formidable foe, Oxford College, the two-time defending JUCO DIII National Champions in men's tennis.  The Tigers captured the win despite having to forfeit two matches from the get-go—No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles.  Fielding a five-man team, the Tigers roared to victory in the five remaining singles and two doubles matches, downing the Eagles, 7-2.

Danny Boussom and Andrew Carey, MMI's No. 1 doubles team, posted a convincing 8-1 win over their Eagle counterparts, while MMI's No. 2 doubles team of Barry Booth and John Hunter felled their opponents, 8-5.

The Tigers continued their dominant play in singles, capturing all five singles flights.  Headlining singles action was Boussom's outstanding play at No. 1 singles.  Boussom won both sets handily, 6-1, 6-2.  Booth, Polk, Hunter, and Carey swept the remaining singles flights.

The Tigers head to Gadsden, AL, to take on the Gadsden State Community College Cardinals in a 1:00 p.m. match on Saturday, October 22.
