Tigers Down Eagles, 6-3, in Men’s Tennis

Marion, AL—The Marion Military Institute Tigers claimed two of the three doubles matches to take a one-point lead going into singles play and then won four of the six singles matches to down the Meridian Community College Eagles, 6-3, on Friday afternoon at the Paul B. Anderson Tennis Complex.

MMI's No. 1 doubles team of Danny Boussom and Andrew Carey played some superlative tennis to score a W over the high-flying Eagle pairing of Jason Pimenta and Breno Goncalves. Scoring MMI's second doubles point of the afternoon was the No. 2 doubles team of Barry Booth and John Hunter. They edged the team of Noah James and Will Swindoll, 9-7.

MMI tallied wins at singles flights 1, 2, 3, and 5 to round out the scoring for MMI. Danny Boussom played some brilliant tennis in his 6-1, 6-4 win over Jason Pimenta. At No. 2 singles, Barry Booth held on to squeak by Breno Goncalves, 6-3, 7-6 (5). John Hunter came back from one set down to take the No. 3 singles point, 3-6, 6-1, 10-5. And Andrew Carey played solidly throughout his match to win in straight sets at No. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-2.

Impressive in a losing effort at No. 4 singles was Isaiah Polk, who lost to Will Swindoll, a 6-time singles and doubles state champion from Oxford, MS. Polk was eclipsed, 6-4, 1-6, 10-3.

The Tigers go on the road next week to participate in the 2016 ITA Southern Regional JUCO Championships at the Northeast Tennis Center in Meridian, MS. Play begins on Wednesday, Sept. 21 and ends on Saturday, Sept. 24.
