MMI Splits Matches with Faulkner State Community College, Winning 6-3 in Men’s Tennis and Losing 7-2 in Women’s Tennis

Marion, AL—MMI's men's and women's tennis teams split their matches on Wednesday afternoon at the Paul B. Anderson Tennis Complex.  The MMI men defeated the Faulkner State Community College Sun Chiefs, 6-3, and the MMI women lost to the Lady Sun Chiefs, 7-2.

In the women's match, the Lady Tigers' No. 1 doubles team of Stella Fedele and Victoria Johnson picked up a 6-1, 6-1 win and Alex Kempf pulled out a three-set win at No. 2 singles, 3-6, 6-0, 10-6.

In the men's match, the Tigers swept the three doubles matches and split the six singles matches.

Two of the doubles matches were decided by a third-set super tiebreaker.  The No. 2 doubles match was decided with three tiebreakers, with Ben Lee and Blake McDonald eking out a 6-7 (6), 7-6 (5), 10-8 win.  Xavier Bell and Max Holloway survived, 6-1, 3-6, 10-5, at No. 2 doubles.  Compared to those two matches, Adam Bahney and Andrew Wright won a relative breather at No. 1 doubles, 6-3, 6-4.

The third-set super tiebreakers didn't go MMI's way in the singles matches, though, as Faulkner State edged MMI at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, 6-7 (4), 6-3, 10-7 and 4-6, 6-3, 10-4, respectively.

Wright (6-1, 6-2), Bell (6-3, 6-1), and Lee (6-2, 6-1) scored the remaining three points for the Tigers.

Next up for the Tigers is an away match with Gadsden State.  The match will be played at the Gadsden Tennis Complex on Saturday, March 26.  First serves are slated to fly at 1:00 p.m.
