Men’s Tennis Sweeps Itawamba and Holmes in Friday Matches

Fulton, MS—The Marion Military Institute Tigers played two matches at the Johnson-Partlow Tennis Courts on the Fulton Campus of Itawamba Community College on Friday and downed Holmes Community College, 8-1, in the morning match on the neutral courts and then resumed play in the afternoon to down the Itawamba Community College Indians, 9-0.

In the morning match, the Tigers started off the day by blanking the Bulldogs of Holmes Community College in doubles play, 3-0, allowing only three games.

The Tigers picked up five of the six singles points with strong play by Xavier Bell at No. 2 singles (6-0, 6-0), Ben Lee at No. 3 singles (6-3, 6-0), Max Holloway at No. 4 singles (6-3, 6-2), Shane McDonough at No. 5 singles (6-3, 6-0), and Blake McDonald at No. 6 singles (6-1, 6-3).

The Tigers scalped the Indians 9-0 in the afternoon match, taking all six singles and three doubles matches.  The Tiger duos of Andrew Wright/Harry Foster at No. 1 doubles, Adam Bahney/Shane McDonough at No. 2 doubles, and Xavier Bell/Max Holloway at No. 3 doubles won their matches 8-4, 8-0, and 8-3, respectively.

Bahney (6-3, 6-2), Foster (6-3, 5-7, 10-7). Wright (6-1, 6-2), Bell (6-3, 6-3), Ben Lee (6-3, 6-0), and McDonough (6-1, 6-2) won the remaining matches.

The Tigers travel to Meridian, MS, to take on the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College Bulldogs at the Northeast Park Tennis Center in a 1:00 p.m. match on Saturday, February 27.
