Men’s Tennis Downs Gadsden Cardinals in Fall Dual-Match Finale

Marion, AL—The MMI Tigers swept doubles play and scored a trio of 6-1, 6-1 singles wins to down the visiting Gadsden State Community College Cardinals, 6-3, on Saturday afternoon at the Paul B. Anderson Tennis Complex.

The Tigers opened play with the doubles sweep.  Harrison Foster and Andrew Wright scored MMI's first point of the afternoon with a solid 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles.  Their win was closely followed by another solid doubles performance at No. 3 doubles by Patrick Ryder and Xavier Bell.  Both teams dispatched their Cardinal foes by using a hard-to-beat combination of strong serves and volleys.  Adam Bahney and Max Holloway held off the scrappy Cardinal duo of Chris Millsap and Kyle Cavendar, 8-6, at No. 2 doubles.

Bahney, Wright, and Ben Lee, at singles flights 1, 3, and 6, respectively, rounded out the Tiger scoring and secured the match win for the Tigers.  All three players won in straight 6-1, 6-1 sets.

The Tigers will conclude their fall season in a one-day tournament on Sunday, October 25, at the University of West Alabama (UWA) in Livingston, AL.  The tournament will feature four men's teams:  Meridian Community College, MMI, Stillman College, and UWA.  Doubles play will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the Howard R. Vaughan Tennis Complex.  All singles and doubles play will be one set only.
