Two MMI Doubles Tandems to Compete at National Small College Championships

Marion, AL—Harrison Foster and Andrew Wright earned the Southern Region's JUCO bid to the National Small College Championships in Sumter, SC, by winning the doubles crown at the Small College Regional Championship in mid-September.  They will be joined by fellow teammates Adam Bahney and Max Holloway, who finished as runners-up in the tournament and received an at-large bid last week.  The tournament begins on Thursday, October 15 at the Palmetto Tennis Center and winds up on Sunday, October 18.

Both doubles teams will represent the Marion Military Institute Tigers in the elite field, which also includes junior college doubles teams from Seminole State College (Oklahoma), American River College (California), ASA College Miami (Florida), Ventura College (California), and Tyler Junior College (Texas).  Marion Military Institute and Seminole State College are the only junior colleges with two doubles teams apiece in the draw.

In Thursday's action, which begins at 1:00 p.m., Bahney and Holloway will square off against the No. 2-seeded team of Ferren Calvo and Enrique Pardo from Tyler Junior College, while Foster and Wright will face Nicolas Rouanet and Eric Ahren-Moonga, the No. 4-seeded team from ASA College Miami.

All divisions save Division I are represented at the tournament.  Each division (JUCO, NAIA, Division II, and Division III) will hold its own championship.  The winners of each division will then participate in a tournament within a tournament called the Super Bowl, with the winner(s) being crowned the National Small College Champion in women's singles and doubles and men's singles and doubles.  The Super Bowl winners in men's and women's singles and men's and women's doubles will be invited to Flushing, NY, to participate in the prestigious USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.  This exclusive tournament is billed "as the only tournament on the ITA (Intercollegiate Tennis Association) calendar to showcase elite players from every level of college tennis."
