Tigers Dispatch Meridian Eagles, 7-2, in Men’s Tennis

Meridian, MS—The MMI Tigers clawed their way to three close doubles victories and then came back in singles play to take four out of six matches for a 7-2 win at the Eagles' home courts at the Northeast Park Tennis Center on Friday afternoon.

In three very well-played and closely contested doubles matches, the Tigers survived to take a 3-0 lead into singles action.  The closest of the contests pitted MMI's Andrew Wright and Harrison Foster against Meridian's Jason Pimenta and Noah James.  The Tiger duo avenged an early September loss to the Meridian pair by pulling out an 8-6 win.  The Tigers' Adam Bahney and Max Holloway at No. 2 doubles and Patrick Ryder and Xavier Bell at No. 3 doubles posted identical 8-5 wins to round out the doubles scoring for MMI.

In singles action, Foster, Ryder, Shane McDonough, and Bell notched wins for the Tiger cause.  Foster at No. 2 singles played a near-perfect match in downing Meridian's James, 6-0, 6-2.

"That's the best that I've seen Harrison play in the exhibition season," head coach Charles Wright said.  "Harrison's shots were impeccable—crisp and clean—and his movement on the court was phenomenal."

The Tigers return home to face the Martin Methodist JV team in a 1:00 p.m. match on Monday, October 9.
