Former Tiger Jake McDonough Named Landmark Conference’s Rookie of the Year in Tennis

Marion, AL—Former Tiger tennis standout and current United States Merchant Marine Academy  player Jake McDonough has recently been voted Rookie of the Year by the Landmark Conference's head coaches.  Besides the Merchant Marine Academy, the Landmark Conference consists of the following colleges and universities:  Juniata, Goucher, Moravian, Catholic, Scranton, Elizabethtown, Drew, and Susquehanna.

After completing MMI's one-year Service Academy Prep program, McDonough earned his appointment to the United States Merchant Marine Academy.   During the spring season, he competed for the Mariners at the No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles flights, compiling an impressive 11-4 record in singles and a 10-5 mark in doubles play.

While at MMI, McDonough competed at No. 1 doubles and No. 3 singles, winning the 2013 USTA/ITA Southern JUCO Regional Doubles Championship with Romar Hernandez and the Flight 3 Singles Championship at the Alabama Community College Conference tournament.

"Jake is very deserving of being named Rookie of the Year of the Landmark Conference," MMI head coach Charles Wright said.  "He was a great competitor and team player for us, and he was one of the hardest-working tennis players that I have had the privilege of coaching."
