Tigers Tame Eagles, 9-0, in Men’s Tennis

Marion, AL—The men's tennis team swept all nine matches in a Tuesday afternoon match against the Meridian Community College Eagles at the Paul B. Anderson Tennis Complex.

Doubles play set the tone for the afternoon as the Tigers swept play in all three doubles flights.  MMI's No. 1 doubles team of Morgan Hale and Andrew Wright defeated Shane Trebisky and Chris Mallette, 8-3.  MMI's Kaiser De Leon and Javier de Claire downed Judson Watson and Samuel Butler, 8-1, in No. 2 doubles..  And MMI's Patrick Ryder and Marty Birchmeier rounded out the doubles scoring with an 8-3 win on court 3.

MMI notched six more points in singles play.  De Leon, Hale, Wright, Ryder, de Claire, and Birchmeier all won in straight sets.  De Leon squeezed past Trebisky in the opening-set tiebreaker, 7-6 (4), and then overwhelmed Trebisky in the second set, 6-0.  Ryder eked out a 6-4, 7-6 (4) win at No. 4 singles.  Hale (6-1, 6-0), Wright (6-1, 6-1), de Claire (6-2, 6-1), and Birchmeier (6-2, 6-1) closed out the scoring for the Tigers.

The Tigers host Faulkner State Community College in their last home match of the season on Wednesday, April 8.  First serves are scheduled to fly at 1:00 p.m.
