Tigers Eclipse Sun Chiefs, 8-1, in Men’s Tennis

Bay Minette, AL—On a cloudy and windy Monday afternoon at the Bay Minette Municipal Tennis Courts, the MMI Tigers eclipsed the Sun Chiefs of Faulkner State Community College, 8-1, sweeping doubles play and nearly sweeping the six singles matches.

In doubles action, MMI's No. 3 doubles tandem of Patrick Ryder and Marty Birchmeier claimed the first point of the match with an 8-3 win.  Court 2 finished next with an 8-5 win by Kaiser De Leon and Javier de Claire.  Finally, on court 1, Morgan Hale and Andrew Wright outlasted Faulkner State's Dallas Teague and Atticus Bolling, 9-7.

Singles action saw Kaiser De Leon forge ahead 4-0 against last year's Alabama Community College Conference MVP and No. 1 singles champion Dallas Teague.  But champions die hard, and Teague was no exception to this rule, as he lived and put another W in the win column, 7-5, 6-3.

Hale (6-1, 6-2), Wright (6-4, 6-0), Ryder (6-3, 6-0), de Claire (6-2, 7-6 [5]), and Birchmeier (6-1, 6-4) posted the five remaining points for the Tigers on the afternoon.

The Tigers will participate in the Stillman College Tennis Tournament this Friday, April 3 and Saturday, April 4.  Match times and opponents have yet to be determined.  Match play, however, is expected to start early and last all day on both days of play.
