Mobile Rams Tigers, 8-1, in Men’s Play; Lady Tigers Win Five Matches in Abridged Action

Mobile, AL—Pawing the earth and snorting fire, the Mobile Rams rammed the MMI Tigers, 8-1, on Thursday afternoon at the University of Mobile courts.  The Lady Tigers, on the other hand, managed to win four singles matches and one doubles match in truncated play.

The Mobile men plowed through the three doubles matches with relative ease, with the doubles pairs of Nick Van Amerom/Cesar Paleari (8-2), Santiago Quiros/Marco Nunez (8-4), and Tom Ruehl/Tyler Watts (8-5) staking Mobile to a 3-0 lead heading into singles play.

In singles play, Kaiser De Leon gave Nick Van Amerom all he could handle in the No. 1 singles match before falling in a third-set super tiebreaker, 10-1.  The final match result was 6-1, 3-6, 10-1.  The Tigers' sole win of the day in men's play came when Morgan Hale trounced Cesar Paleari, 8-1, at No. 2 singles.  Andrew Wright, MMI's No. 3 singles player, fell 8-4 to Karlis Stonis.  Santiago Quiros, Tim Buehler, and Marco Del Prado tallied the three remaining points for Mobile.

In women's play, Carlee Conway and Maria Cespedes both won two matches apiece in singles action.  Conway, the Lady Tigers' No. 1 singles player, felled Marcella Abrantes (8-4) and Jordan Grissom (8-2); and Cespedes, the Lady Tigers' No. 2 singles player, downed Lea Junggeburth (6-3) and Ambria Phillips (6-3).

Conway and Cespedes then teamed together to defeat Junggeburth and Phillips, 8-5, in the only women's doubles match of the day.

The Tigers return home to play the Gadsden State Community College Cardinals in a 1:00 p.m. match on Saturday, February 28, and the Lady Tigers return home to play the Stillman College Lady Tigers in a 1:00 p.m. match on Tuesday, March 3.
