Morgan Hale Receives His Appointment to West Point

Marion, AL—Morgan Hale, who plays No. 1 doubles and No. 2 singles for the Marion Military Institute (MMI) men's tennis team, has recently been notified of his appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York.

Hale, of Santa Barbara, California, decided to attend MMI to participate in The General Bruce K. Holloway Service Academy Program (SAP), a rigorous and demanding one-year program that prepares students for admission to the service academies via a four-pronged combination of "strong academic preparation, military training, leadership, and physical development."

"MMI's SAP program allowed me to grow as a leader, as a student, and as an athlete," Hale said.  "I have learned effective leadership skills by being a part of the Corps of Cadets, and I have been able to develop as a leader and a person.  The SAP program gave me the academic courses and the physical training to allow me to achieve my appointment to West Point and to succeed once I am there."

Charles Wright, the men's and women's tennis coach at MMI, said Hale is now a member of an elite group of non-sponsored SAP tennis student-athletes to successfully gain admittance to one of the service academies.  Other tennis players in this exclusive club include Chad Llewellyn (West Point), Savannah Stachowiak (West Point),  Tasha Bull (Coast Guard Academy), and Sean "Jake" McDonough (Merchant Marine Academy).

According to Wright, "No one is more deserving of this fine honor than Morgan Hale.  He has been nothing but a tremendous competitor and player for our team.  And academically, he gets the job done in the classroom.  On and off the court, Morgan epitomizes what it means to be a student-athlete.  I am very proud of Morgan and all of his accomplishments."

In summing up his MMI experience, Hale said, "I am blessed to have attended MMI in preparation for my future at West Point and as an Army Officer.  I give thanks to my Lord and Savior, my family, and all those who supported me in achieving my appointment."
