Tigers Impressive in Fall Scrimmage Debut

Meridian, MS—The Tigers took to the road Tuesday to face the Meridian Community College Eagles, a perennial tennis powerhouse in the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges, and pounced on the two doubles matches to take an early 2-0 lead heading into singles action.  The Tigers continued their fine play in singles, winning four of the five matches played, to finish the day on the long end of a 6-1 final match score.

Two matches (one in singles and the other in doubles) highlighted match play.  In the longest and most grueling match of the day, Meridian's Shane Trebisky outlasted Marion's Kaiser De Leon, 3-6,  6-4, 10-5, in the No. 1 singles slot.  The temperature easily eclipsed triple digits on the court surface.

In an earlier match, Marion's Morgan Hale and Andrew Wright, playing almost textbook-perfect doubles, rolled to a 6-2, 6-2 win over Meridian's Shane Trebisky and Walt Harrington.

De Leon and Patrick Ryder won the second doubles match played, 6-1, 6-1, while Hale (6-1, 6-0), Wright (6-3, 6-1), Ahmed Gonna (6-1, 6-0), and Ryder (6-0, 6-3) rounded out the scoring for the Tigers.

The Tigers return home to play another perennial tennis powerhouse, the Stillman College Tigers, on Thursday, September 18.  Match play is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m.
