MMI Falls to Stillman College in Men’s Tennis

Tuscaloosa, AL—The MMI Tigers squared off against the Stillman College Tigers in near-tornadic weather conditions and were uprooted, 6-3, in a Wednesday afternoon match that saw MMI notch wins at No. 1 doubles and at singles flights 1 and 2.

Kaiser De Leon and Romar Hernandez spearheaded MMI's fine doubles play by squeezing out an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles over the Stillman duo of David Torres and Alek Zobec.  Jake McDonough and Javier de Claire wound up on the losing end of a tight 8-6 match with Yonwaba Pupuma and Jose Pojasi.  On court 3, the MMI Tiger tandem of Marty Birchmeier and Kyon James fell prey to the Stillman Tiger pair of Jangeon Lee and Edward Symmonett, 8-3.

Kaiser De Leon breezed by Jangeon Lee at the No. 1 singles slot by virtue of a default to knot the match at 2-2.  Stillman reclaimed the lead, 4-2, when it claimed wins at singles flights 5 and 6.

MMI pulled to within one point when Romar Hernandez downed David Torres in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4.  Stillman polished off the remaining two matches with victories on courts 3 (6-2, 6-2) and 4 (6-2, 6-4).

The Tigers will return home after Spring Break to take on Gadsden State Community College in a 1:00 p.m. match on Saturday, March 29.
