Men's Tennis Collects a 6-3 Win at Gadsden State

Gadsden, AL - The men's tennis team collected two doubles points and four singles points to beat the Gadsden State Community College Cardinals, 6-3, on Saturday afternoon at the Gadsden Tennis Complex.

MMI's first and second doubles teams won in straight sets, as did Gadsden's No. 3 doubles team.  Kaiser DeLeon and Romar Hernandez downed Granger Surrett and Dakota Harris to secure MMI's first point at No. 1 doubles. MMI's No. 2 doubles team of Jake McDonough and Javier de Claire defeated Jacob Mitchell and Hayden Clowers, 7-5, 6-3, to build a 2-1 MMI lead going ito singles play.

In singles action, the match of the day went to Marty Birchmeier, who, trailing 4-0 in the first set, reeled off 13 of the last 16 games played in the match to produce a stunning 7-6 (2), 6-1 win at No. 5 singles.

Also putting up points for MMI in singles play were Kaiser DeLeon at No. 1 singles (6-1, 6-1), Romar Hernandez at No. 2 singles (6-1, 6-2), and Jake McDonough at No. 3 singles (7-6[5], 6-4).

The Tigers will head to Tuscaloosa, AL., to play the Stillman College Tigers in a Sunday afternoon match on March 9.  Match play will begin at 1:30 p.m.
