MMI Pair Loses in Three Sets to Fresno City College

Fort Myers, FL—Romar Hernandez and Jake McDonough didn't bring their "A" game to their first-round doubles match against Fresno City College's Alec Bessinger and Adrien Varenne.  In fact, they brought their "Z" game and were about to be handed a big "L."

Down 2-6, 1-4, the MMI duo fought back from the brink of defeat and won the second-set tiebreaker in dramatic fashion when McDonough sent a blistering forehand screaming down the line at 7 points to 6.  Bessinger netted McDonough's shot, and the stage was set for the super tiebreaker to decide the match.

The MMI tandem came out cold in the super tiebreaker and wound up losing not only the super tiebreaker but also the match, 2-6, 7-6 (6), 3-10.

Poor play continued to plague Hernandez and McDonough as they fell 6-0, 6-3 in Thursday evening's match against the No. 2-seeded team of Vasil Surduk and Tendai Tapfuma from Seminole State Community College.

Hernandez and McDonough swarmed Meridian's Kevin Millet and Judson Watson, 6-1, 6-2, in Friday's doubles finale to finish with a 1-2 record at the National Small College Championships.
