Hernandez Falls to No. 1 Seed, Goes 1-2 at 2013 USTA/ITA Small College Championships

Fort Myers, FL—The luck of the draw didn't go Romar Hernandez's way at the 2013 USTA/ITA Small College Championships.  On Thursday morning, MMI's No. 1 singles player found himself pitted against Tyler Junior College's Mate Cutura, the top-seeded singles player in the JUCO division.  Hernandez salvaged but two games before losing 6-0, 6-2.

Friday afternoon's matchup proved to be of a more salutary nature.  Hernandez downed Meridian Community College's Kevin Millet, 6-3, 6-2.

The closest and most riveting match of the three-day event for MMI's talented sophomore was Saturday morning's clash with ABAC's Josh Page.  Despite experiencing foot problems, Hernandez kept the match tight with superb slices and powerful forehand drives.  Eventually, Hernandez's lack of mobility caught up with him.  Hernandez wound up losing the match 6-4, 6-3 and finished the tournament with a 1-2 record.
