Tigers Take Down Bisons at Home

Marion, AL. - After trading baskets with the Bisons from Southern Union State CC the first eight minutes of Saturday afternoon's ACCC North match-up, the MMI Tigers put together a run and took early control of the game.  Marion took a 13-11 lead at the 11:26 mark in the first half and never looked back.  Back-to-back three pointers from Zhavian Green and Kendall Thomas extended the lead to five and then a drive to the basket by Darius Dawson gave the Tigers an 18-11 edge.  Thomas hit for another three-pointer to give Marion their first double digit lead.  A Theron Montgomery tip-in with five and a half minutes to play in the first period extended the lead to 32-16.  Marion took a 40-21 lead into intermission.

MMI came out strong to start the second period and built a 29-point lead before going into an offensive lull.  On the other end of the court, the Bisons found their range from behind the three-point line and cut the lead back to 15 before Jimmie Sanders ended Marion's four minute scoring drought with an old fashioned three-point play; a basket and free throw.  SUSCC would not go away without another run and cut the lead back to 15 before Chris Brown connected from behind the three-point arc to build the cushion back to eighteen, 63-45.  The Tigers were able to use some clock late in the game and keep the Bisons from making a comeback.

Zhavian Green led Marion with 17 points while Kendall Thomas and Mark Bradwell each finished with 13 points.  Jimme Sanders added 11 points from the point guard position.  Also scoring for the Tigers were: Darius Dawson (9), Chris Brown (7), and Theron Montgomery (5).

MMI will travel to Wallace State CC Monday, February 10 for another ACCC North match-up.
