Shots Don't Fall for Tigers at Home

Marion, AL. - After the MMI men's basketball team lost four players from their original 2019-20 roster, including two starters, head coach Timothy Rodgers changed his offensive mindset for the Tigers as they navigate through a tough ACCC North schedule.

Hosting the Bucs from Shelton State CC Tuesday evening, the new look Tigers built an early 5-0.  Through the first seven minutes of play the teams exchanged leads until Marion put together a small run to grow their lead to ten, 24-14.  Zhavian Green was fouled on a drive to the basket which gave the Tigers a 15-14 advantage.  Kendall Thomas hit from behind the three-point arc to extend it to 18-14.  Brandon Jackson hit another shot from long distance and Thomas connected again from deep.  The double digit lead caused a timeout from Shelton State and the momentum started to shift to the visitors.

SSCC hit a three-pointer at the 9:47 mark in the first half to tie the game and then put together a small run of their own to take a 43-32 advantage at intermission.  The Bucs came out on fire to start the second half and took a commanding lead but the Tigers never quit playing hard despite shots not falling on the offensive end.  The loss dropped MMI to 10-8 overall, 1-3 in the ACCC North.

The Tigers will host Gadsden State CC for another ACCC North match-up Thursday evening.  Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. iin the William R. Ireland Athletic Center.
