Tigers Defeat Crusaders at Home

Marion, AL. - After defeating the War Hawks from Coastal Alabama CC-East Tuesday evening 75-66, the MMI men's basketball team hosted the Crusaders from William Carey University Thursday evening at the William R. Ireland Athletic Center.  

MMI started out slow with the Crusaders taking an early 5-0 lead before Darius Dawson connected for the Tigers' first two points.  Jacorey Turnipseed gave Marion their first lead on one of his six three-pointers in the first half at the 16:06 mark.  William Carey claimed the lead back with a three-point basket.  Mark Bradwell scored on a put back to give the Tigers a one-point lead on their next possession, 17-16; a lead they never relinquished.

Jimmie Sanders hit from deep to make the lead double digits; assisted by Zhavian Green.  William Carey connected on back-to-back three-pointers to remain within five points with under nine minutes to play in the first period.  MMI went on a run and brought the lead to 52-29 at the break.

The second half saw Marion keep the pressure on the Crusaders, cruising to a 97-68 victory.  Jacorey Turnipseed led the Tigers with 20 points.  Desmond Ward added 18 points with Darius Dawson finishing with 12 points for Marion, now 6-4 on the season.  Also scoring for MMI were: Jimmie Sanders (8), Zhavian Green (8), Mark Bradwell (8), Chris Brown (7), Larry Penn (6), Theron Montgomery (6), Kendall Thomas (2), and Javien Sewell (2).

The Tigers will travel to Enterprise State Community College this Saturday before heading into final exams next week.  Tip-off is schedule for 4:00 p.m.
