Tigers Defeat Bevill State; Improve to 13-5

Marion, AL. - After dropping an overtime loss on the road to Snead State CC earlier in the week, the MMI Tigers rebounded with a 78-65 victory at home against ACCC North foe, the Bevill State Community College Bears.

Marion took an early 4-3 lead three minutes into the game before Bevill connected on back-to-back baskets to take their only lead, 5-8, with 16:37 on the clock.  The Tigers slowly put together mutiple runs and pulled away from the Bears.  With a little over six miinutes left before halftime, sophomore Mikel Davis connected on two free throws to extend the lead to 20 points (37-17).  MMI took a 51-29 lead into the break.

Marion came out flat to start the second half and didn't score until the 16:26 mark when Mikel Davis connected for a two-point basket.  Bevill followed that with a three-point shot to cut the lead to 13.  Carlos Bell, sophomore forward from Bessemer, Alabama, was fouled driving to the basket, and extended MMI's lead back to 17.  Bell earned an assist on Marion's next possession, finding Davis inside for another two-point basket.  The Tigers would maintain a double digit lead throughout the second half, leading to their 13th win of the season.    They are currently 6-2 in the ACCC North with a big ACCC North road game Monday evening at Gadsden State Community College.

Davis led Marion's scoring attack with 19 points. Carlos Bell finished with a double-double; 17 points and 11 rebounds.  He also had three steals.  Joshua Rathell added 14 points and Andrew Reddick had 10 points, four steals and four rebounds.  Antony Edwards and Nathan Boyd each had six points.  Edwards also dished out six assists.  Victor Gray (4 points) and Willie Dunbar III (2 points) rounded out the scoring for Marion.
