Tigers Defeat Maxwell AFB in Home Scrimmage

Marion, Al. - In the first home scrimmage of the 2017-18 season, the MMI Tigers defeated Maxwell Air Force Base last night, 79-56.  Sophomore Mikel Davis scored the first two points of the scrimmage and helped Marion build a lead that stayed in double digits most of the first half.  The visitors from Montgomery, Alabama were able to cut the lead to eight points with just over 11 seconds remaining until sophomore Antony Edwards drove the lane and scored before the buzzer sounded.

The second half saw Marion build their lead to 20 points on a basket by freshman Joshua Rathell, who led the home squad with 18 points.  A steal by sophomore Victor Gray led to another quick score by freshman Josue Passius and the Tigers held a 63-41 advantage with 11 minutes remaining in regulation.  The Tigers were able to mix and match different line-ups throughout the last 10 minutes of the game, getting most into the scoring column.

Edwards finished with 15 points.  Mikel Davis scored 12 and Connor Zinaich added 10 points.  Rounding out the scoring for MMI was: Victor Gray (8), Sean Sykes (6), Clifton Darrington (4), Nathan Boyd (2), Andrew Reddick (2), and Josue Passius (2).

Marion will travel to Livingston, Alabama next Thursday, October 26, for a scrimmage against the Tigers from the University of West Alabama.  Tip-off for that game is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
