Tripp Leads Marion to Victory

Marion, AL. - Sophomore Charles Tripp helped the MMI Tigers improve to 2-0 on the season with his first double-double.  He scored a team high 25 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. Quamauri Hardy added 13 points while fellow sophomore teammate, Neiman Dunams, added 10 points.  Marion defeated ACCC South foe Jeff Davis Community College 78-74.

Marion held a slim six-point lead at halftime (42-36) after the War Hawks put together several small runs to keep the game close.  That trend continued throughout the second half as the home squad surrendered the lead at the 4:53 mark.  JDCC and MMI would trade baskets over the next two minutes before the Tigers would capture the lead back for good with 2:23 left in the game.  Key free throws by Hardy and freshman Carlos Bell solidified the game late for Marion.  Bell finished with nine points.

Scoring for Marion were: John Clayton (8), Mikel Davis (7), Antony Edwards (4), and Treyvon Francis (2).

Marion gets back on the court Monday evening when they host the Alabama Prep Sports Academy in the William R. Ireland Athletic Center.  Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
