Tigers Defeat Stillman College JV at Home

Marion, AL – On November 10, 2015 the Marion Military Institute men's basketball team suffered their first loss of the season at the hands of the Stillman College JV squad.  Last night the Tigers from MMI returned the favor and defeated the visiting Tigers 91-75.

The speedy, guard-oriented Stillman team came out and built a small lead before head coach Philip Stitt substituted five new players that brought an increase in energy and fought back to take a lead with over 13 minutes to play in the first half.  The scrappy Tigers from Tuscaloosa kept clawing their way back into the game and cut the lead to four points after back-to-back three point baskets.  Sophomore Ronnie Baylark hit one of two from the charity stripe and the home team took a 42-37 lead into halftime.

Marion kept the pressure on Stillman early in the second half and were able to build the lead into double digits.  A three-point basket by Baylark at the 9:42 mark grew the lead to 67-53.  He hit another one at the 6:10 mark and the lead blossomed to 20 points.  Stillman never quit playing hard and cut the lead to 12 points with one minute remaining in the game.  Free throws by freshman Quamauri Hardy and a putback by sophomore Dotson Griffin late in the game secured the victory for Marion.

Quamauri Hardy and Ronnie Baylark led MMI with 23 points each.  Christian Bradford finished with 17 and Dotson Griffin contributed 10 points for the Tigers, now 7-3 on the season. Miles Perdue (7), Tyquarious Arnold (4), Neiman Dunams (4), Anthony Pierre-Louis (2), and Charles Tripp (1) rounded out the scoring for Marion.

The Tigers will travel to Selma Wednesday evening to take on Wallace State CC for a 7:00 p.m. tip before hosting Enterprise State Community College Saturday afternoon at 3:30 p.m.
