MMI Defeats LBW at Home, Improves to 5-1

Marion, AL. - The Marion Military Institute men's basketball team came out strong early in their game Saturday afternoon against Lurleen B. Wallace Community College and built a seven-point lead eight minutes into the game.  The Saints would fight back and cut the lead to two with five and a half minutes remaining in the first half.  That fight continued for the visiting team, giving them a two-point lead at the 2:12 mark.  The Tigers actually took the lead back at 1:31 but that was shortlived.  LBW took a three-point lead into halftime, 30-27.

The battle continued early in the second half with LBW maintaining the lead, a lead that would grow to six points with just under 17 minutes to play.  Marion chipped away and tied the game 35-35 at the 14:25 mark.  The game remained tied until the Tigers pulled ahead halfway through the second half.  Marion built a four-point lead with nine minutes to play in the game.  The home squad would never surrender the lead, expanding it into double digits at the 3:16 mark.  Marion finished strong at the free throw line, burying the Saints 63-49 to improve to 5-1.

Christian Bradford (23) and Ronnie Baylark (16) scored in double figures for Marion.  Miles Perdue finished with nine points.  Charles Tripp (7), Quamauri Hardy (5), Dotson Griffin (2), and Neiman Dunams (1) rounded out the scoring column for the Tigers.

Marion will host Wallace State Community College - Selma Monday evening before heading on the road to face Enterprise State Community College and Jeff Davis Community College.  Monday's tip against WSCC is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in the William R. Ireland Athletic Center.
