Basketball Earns Second Win at Home

11/14/13 - Neither MMI nor LBW could gain any rhythm in the first half of Thursday's game which saw Marion take a slim one point lead into halftime.  The Saints from LBW came out charging after halftime and put together a run to even the score early in the second half.  Marion was able to regroup and put together a run of their own which gave them the lead back with a little over fifteen minutes remaining.  MMI's lead grew to as much as seven, but the pesty Saints fought back and were able to cut the lead to just two points with a little over three minutes left in the game.  Key free throw shooting from Marion's DeAndric Thomas (7-for-8) and Monta Sanford (4-for-4) down the stretch helped secure the win for the Tigers.  Marion finally finished off LBW, gaining the 67 to 60 victory.

Monta Sanford once again led Marion in scoring with 14 points.  Sophomores Greg Henry and Jamar Pope finished in double figures, scoring 12 and 11 points, respectively.  DeAndric Thomas finished with nine points. Raymond Hobbs, Joshua Murrell, Charles Steele, Jr., and Sammie Battle each scored four points in the win. Quinttravious Guinn finished with three points and Jibrail Hayes scored two points.

Marion (2-3) will travel to Bay Minette, Alabama to participate in the Faulkner State Community College Tournament next Monday and Tuesday.  The Tigers will face the host team, FSCC, Monday at 7:00 p.m. and Delgado Community College on Tuesday with a 5:15 p.m. tip-off.
