Tigers Start Fall Season at Home

Marion, AL. – The MMI baseball team started their fall season with two wins against the Cardinals of Gadsden State Community College.

The first seven innings saw Matthew Casey, Jacob Marshall, Nicholas Blaszczak, Dalton Grace, and Frank Kon all seeing action on the mound with Marion completing a 6-5 advantage.  After the Cardinals scored five runs in the first two innings, MMI added two runs in the bottom of the second inning.  Harrison McPherson singled to left field and William Keller walked.  Seth Frantz singled, scoring McPherson.  Keller stole third base and scored on a sac fly off the bat of Joshua Gandy.

Marion added three more runs in the fourth inning when Alex Bradford singled with two outs.  Joshua Gandy tripled to score Bradford and Ashton Wasielewski blasted a homerun to plate two runs.

The sixth run was scored in the bottom of the sixth inning as Frantz led off with a walk.  He stole second base and then on his steal attempt to third, was able to score after an errant throw by the GSCC catcher.

The second seven innings of the fall scrimmage game saw GSCC take an early 1-0 lead after two innings.

MMI took the lead scoring three runs in the third inning.  Andrew House singled and Daniel Cooper was hit by a pitch.  With two outs Jake Smithson hit to right centerfield, scoring House and Cooper easily.  As Smithson headed to third base, Head coach Jonah Todd waved him home and scored off an errant throw.

The Cardinals added two more runs in the fourth inning and one in the seventh inning.  Marion added four runs in the sixth inning.  Wyatt Smith singled and stole second.  Jack Trochessett reached on an infield error and advanced to second base.  House doubled to right centerfield and Cooper walked.  A sac fly by Skyler Smith allowed the Tiger's final run to cross the plate.

Seeing action from the mound during the second game was Gavin Chandler, Landon Alton, Austin Collins, Joshua Gandy, and Nathan Harby.

Marion is scheduled to travel to Tuscaloosa, Alabama to face the Bucs of Shelton State Community College Thursday, September 14 for another fall scrimmage.  First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
