Tigers Sweep Patriots in Saturday Afternoon DH

Marion, AL. - The Marion Military Institute baseball team swept the Patriots from Wallace Community College-Selma Saturday afternoon in an ACCC North/South match-up.

Game 1 MMI 11 WCCS 0

Jax Morris earned the win from the mound in game one of Saturday's doubleheader only having to work five innings after his teammates put up 11 runs to run rule the visitors from Selma.  He allowed four hits and one walk while striking out four batters.

The Tigers jumped up 4-0 after their first at-bat.  Bryson Kirk led off with a walk.  Nicholas Freeman, Michael Rich and Hunter Stowe all followed with walks to bring home the Tiger's first run.  Colton Lunceford hit a sac fly to bring in Freeman.  Jordan Moore added a base hit in Marion's next at-bat.  Duncan McReath walked and Nicholas Davis brought in two runs with a base hit.

MMI added three more runs in the bottom of the second inning with back-to-back-to-back hits from Bryson Kirk, Nicholas Freeman, and Michael Rich.  Rich tripled down the right field line to score Kirk and Freeman.  Rich scored on a throwing error to make the score 7-0.

With the Tigers held scoreless in the third inning, they added four more runs in the fourth inning to put the game out of reach.  Bradlee Cole started the inning with a base hit and moved to second on a throwing error.  Andrew Watts reached on an infield error; Cole moved to third.  Jordan Moore scored Cole on a hit, his second of the game.  A Nicholas Davis hit loaded the bases and Weston Ball doubled down the left field line to score two runs.  Up 10-0, Kirk brought in the Tiger's last run on a sac fly to left field.

Game 2 MMI 5 WCCS 4

Freshman John Allen took the mound in the second game Saturday afternoon and after two innings of work was relieved by Mason Elmore who earned the win.  Allen gave up two hits, three runs (one earned), two walks while striking out two Patriot hitters.  Elmore struck out three with two walks and two hits in three innings.  Jenson Barker relieved Elmore in the sixth inning and recorded the save.

The Patriots scored first in the top of the second inning with MMI tying the game in the bottom half of that inning.  Colton Lunceford led off with a base hit. Duncan McReath reached on an error and Weston Ball got a hit to load the bases.  Lunceford scored on a passed ball.

Wallace CC added two runs in their next at-bat but the Tigers answered with one run in the bottom of the fourth inning to cut the lead to 2-3.  Ball started the rally with a two-out hit.  Christian Wright doubled, scoring Ball.  Marion took the lead in the fifth inning, 5-3, when Michael Rich led the inning with a double.  He was moved to third on a fielder's choice and McReath bunted for a hit to score Rich.  Hunter Stowe singled to score Marion's fourth run.  Ball reached on an infield hit and Wright was hit by a pitch and plated another run.  Tigers held a 5-3 lead after five innings.

WCCS added a run in the top of the seventh inning after the leadoff batter reached on an error.  With two runners on base, Jensen Barker closed the game out with a strikeout, his fourth of the afternoon.
