Baseball Sweeps Doubleheader on Reunion Day

Marion, AL. – Marion Military Institute hosted a baseball reunion this past weekend and the Tigers did not disappoint their visitors as they swept a doubleheader from Coastal Alabama CC-East.

Game 1 – MMI 9 Coa-East 7

Sophomore Jax Morris started on the mound for the Tigers and after working 4.1 innings, Marion held a 4-0 lead.  Morris surrendered just two hits and two runs (none earned) with two walks and seven strikeouts.  Freshmen Zakye Holiday and Jordan Moore saw action in relief and helped secure the win.

At the plate, MMI was led by sophomore designated hitter Michael Rich.  Rich went a perfect 4-for-4 with a double and a triple.  He led the team with four RBI while scoring twice.  Bryson Kirk recorded two hits in four at-bats with a double and two runs scored.  Also getting hits for Marion were: Hunter Stowe and Jordan Moore.

Game 2 – MMI 4 Coa-East 2

The Tigers took a 3-0 lead into the fourth inning before the War Hawks from Coastal Alabama CC-East plated two runs.  MMI added one more run in the bottom half of the fourth and held on for the doubleheader sweep.  Freshman John Allen recorded his first collegiate win giving up four hits, two runs, and two walks while striking out three batters in four innings of work.  Weston Ball and Mason Elmore pitched in relief while sophomore Jensen Barker earned the save.

Michael Rich once again led the offensive attack for Marion with a homerun, two RBI and one run scored.  Freshman Colton Lunceford went 2-for-2 with two doubles and a walk.  He also scored two runs for the Tigers.  Bryson Kirk and Jordan Moore also recorded hits for Marion.

The Tigers will travel to Brewton, Alabama for a rematch against the War Hawks of Coastal Alabama CC-East Tuesday afternoon.
