Rich and Daniel Help Secure DH Sweep Friday Afternoon

Marion, AL. - The MMI baseball team escaped with two wins Friday afternoon against the Cougars of Lawson State CC after giving up leads in the top of the seventh innings in both games.

In game one of Friday's doubleheader, Marion held a 1-0 lead into the third inning before Lawson State added two runs in the top half of the inning to take their first lead.  Marion plated two more runs in the fifth inning and added another run in the sixth inning.  Marion squanderd their two-run lead in the top of the seventh when the Cougars scored five runs to take a 7-4 advantage.  In the bottom half of the seventh inning, freshman Michael Rich hit a three-run bomb to right field to tie the game and give the Tigers new life.  Rich wasn't done with his heroics as he returned to the plate with a runner on in the bottom of the ninth inning.  A blast off the scoreboard in right centerfield scored the winning runs and secured the victory for MMI.

Game two was very similar to game one as the Tigers built an 11-4 lead going into the final inning.  Lawson exploded for seven runs in their turn at the plate to tie the game at 11-11.  Wih one out and the bases loaded, sophomore right fielder Devne Daniel hit down the third baseline to score the winning run.  MMI took the 12-11 win, improving to 24-18 overall and 15-11 in the ACCC North.

MMI will travel to Birmingham, AL to face Lawson State for the final two games of the series.  The Tigers close out the regular season next week with a four-game series against the Lions of Wallace State CC.
