Baseball Earns Split with Bevill State

Baseball improved to 18-14 overall, 9-7 in the ACCC North, after splitting a four game series with Bevill State Community College.

Game 1: MMI 1 Bevill State 2

Marion scattered six hits in the loss in game one of the four game series at Bevill State CC in Fayette, Alabama. Collecting hits for Marion were Duncan McReath, David Sweat, Matthew Marfice, Devne Daniel, and Samuel Clement.  Freshman hurler, Jax Morris, took the loss for Marion after working 3.1 innings.  He gave up four hits, two runs and five walks with one strikeout.  Jenson Barker and Weston Ball also saw action in relief.

Game 2: MMI 3 Bevill State 9

Once again Marions' bats stayed quiet in the second game of the day as they scattered five hits in seven innings of play.  Devne Daniel went 2-for-3 with a double.  Seth Shadix, Christian Wright and Michael Rich also had hits for MMI. 

Game 3: MMI 3 Bevill State 1

Marquez Oates worked a complete game for the Tigers, earning his seventh win of the spring season.  In seven innings, he gave up four hits, one run (none earned) and two walks while striking out five batters.  David Sweat had a double with an RBI, a run scored and a walk.  Devne Daniel, Michael Rich, Nicholas Davis, Christian Wright, and Samuel Clement also tallied hits for Marion.

Game 4: MMI 7 Bevill State 2

Matthew Marfice, Samuel Clement, and Drew Mercier each went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Marion to the 7-2 victory.  Marfice scored twice and had two RBI.  Clement had a double with an RBI and two runs scored.  Mercier also scored twice and recorded an RBI.  David Sweat and Michael Rich also recorded hits for MMI.  Earning the win in the circle was James Smith.  He gave up four hits and one run in four innings of work with four walks and three strikeouts.  Coleton Barnes earned a save, giving up two hits, one run, and a walk in three innings. 

MMI will face Southern Union State CC, another ACCC North foe, for a four game series starting with a home doubleheader this Thursday.  First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
