Baseball Wins Two at Snead; Evens Series

Boaz, AL. - The MMI Tigers captured two wins at Snead State Community College Saturday afternoon to even that series as two games apiece.

Game 1: MMI 7  SSCC 3

After three innings, the Parsons took an early 3-1 lead but the Tigers scored two runs in the fourth, two runs in the fifth, one run in the sixth, and another run in the seventh inning to capture game one, 7-3.  Freshman James Smith earned his first win on the mound for Marion.  In 6.1 innings, he gave up seven hits, four runs, and five walks while striking out four Parson batters.  Sophomore Marquez Oates recorded a save, working 0.2 innings.  He struck out two batters while allowing no hits or runs.

Matthew Marfice led MMI's offensive attack, finishing 2-for-3 with a homerun, an RBI and one run scored.  Samuel Clement had two hits in four at-bats with a double and an RBI while crossing the plate twice for the Tigers.  Also collecting hits for Marion were: David Sweat, and Drew Mercier.

Game 2: MMI 9 SSCC 7

Marion came back after trailing 6-2 in the first inning to even the four game series by adding one run in the fifth inning, four runs in the sixth, and two more in the seventh inning.  Marquez Oates got the start for the Tigers but was relieved by Riley Spearman and Coleton Barnes.  Barnes recorded the win after striking out five batters in three innings of work.

Devne Daniel and Matthew Marfice provided the one-two punch for Marion's offense; both going 3-for-5 at the plate.  Daniel blasted a homerun, scored three times and recorded two RBI while Marfice added a homerun and two RBI with one run scored.  Samuel Clement finished 2-for-3 with a walk and a run scored.  David Sweat and Jonathan Johnson each added two hits with Sweat scoring twice.

Andrew Valero, Weston Ball, and Michael Rich also had hits in the win for Marion.
