Baseball Starts 2-2 in ACCC North Play

The MMI baseball team opened up ACCC North play against Central Alabama Community College, earning a split on Thursday and Saturday afternoons.

Game 1 MMI 2 CACC 3

CACC scored a run in the bottom of the eighth inning to take game 1 of the four game series.  The Tigers scattered seven hits in the extra inning loss. Sophomore David Sweat led MMI with two hits and an RBI.  Jonathan Johnson, Nicholas Davis, Samuel Clement, Christian Wright, and Michael Rich each recorded a hit for Marion. 

Freshman Jax Morris started on the mound and worked 4.2 innings giving up two hits, no runs, and four walks with three strikeouts.  Also seeing action for Marion were Marquez Oates, Coleton Barnes, Jenson Barker, Seth Etienne, and Nathan Colegrove

Game 2 MMI 11 CACC 2

Bradley Brown earned the win on the mound in game two for Marion.  He struck out four batters while allowing four hits, two runs, and two walks in 5.1 inniings of work.  Garrett Ellis and Camden Mathis also saw action in relief for the Tigers.

Nicholas Davis went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, an RBI, and a walk.  David Sweat scored three runs and finished with one hit and two base on balls.  Cole Beck added a hit and scored a run with two RBI.  Drew Mercier and Matthew Marfice also had hits in the lopsided victory.  Mercier scored once; Marfice scored and added two RBI.

Game 3 MMI 2 CACC 12

Not much went right for Marion in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader as CACC defeated the Tigers 12-2.  Devne Daniel scored Marion's two runs and finished with two hits in four at-bats.  Michael Rich went 2-for-3 while David Sweat, Drew Mercier, and Nicholas Davis each had a hit. 

Sophomore Riley Spearman took the loss for the Tigers after giving up three runs (two earned) on two hits and a walk.  Also seeing action for Marion were: Michael Pittmon, Garrett Ellis, Camden Mathis, and Jarrett Carter

Game 4 MMI 5 CACC 0

The Tigers rebounded to earn a split in their opening series, taking game four 5-0 behind a strong pitching effort from sophomore Marquez Oates.  Oates pitched a complete game, six-hit shutout with no walks and five strikeouts.

Michael Rich went 2-for-2 at the plate with a double, a walk, and an RBI.  He also scored three runs.  Marion's starting center fielder, David Sweat, scored the other two runs.  Sweat had two hits with a double and a walk.  Jonathan Johnson had two RBI, finishing with two hits in three at-bats.  Matthew Marfice also had a hit for MMI.

MMI will host Coastal Alabama-East Tuesday, March 12, with the first pitch scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
