Tigers Earn a Split at Spring Hill

Mobile, AL. - The MMI Tigers travelled to Mobile, Alabama Wednesday afternoon to face the Badgers of Spring Hill College.  Marion took game one 6-3 behind a strong hitting performance from Michael Rich and Seth Shadix.  Rich went 2-for-2 with two walks, a stolen base while scoring a run.  Shadix followed with two hits in four plate appearances.  He doubled and scored a run.  Drew Mercier went 1-for-1 with two walks and a stolen base.  He also scored a run for the Tigers.  Matthew Marfice doubled to finish 1-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored.  Deven Daniel collected a hit, a double, in two official at-bats.  He walked once and recorded three RBI.

Game two saw the Badgers go up 3-0 in the bottom of the third inning.  Marion added two runs in the top of the fourth inning but Spring Hill tallied one in the fifth and another run in the sixth to take a one run lead into the final inning.  The Tigers plated three runs in the top of the seventh inning to tie the game 5-5.  Spring Hill added a run in their last at-bat to take the 5-6 victory.  Jonathan Johnson went 2-for-2 with one run scored.  Drew Mercier added two hits in three at-bats with a run scored and a walk.  Matthew Marfice added a hit, scored a run, was walked once and recorded an RBI.  David Sweat also collected a hit with an RBI.

Marion will play at home Saturday, February 9, against Wallace Community College - Selma.  First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
