Baseball Takes 3 of 4 from Coastal Alabama-North

The MMI baseball team improved their spring record to 8-3 after taking three of four games against Coastal Alabama Community College-North last week.

Game one of the series saw the Tigers take an 8-5 victory.  Sophomore Dylan Oliver got the win from the mound, working 3.1 innings.  He gave up two hits, one run, one walk while striking out five batters.  Ryan Hill saw action in relief.  He threw 3.2 innings with four hits, four runs (one earned) and two strikeouts.  David Sweat and Devne Daniel each collected two hits for Marion.  Sweat finished two-for-three with one walk while scoring three runs.  Also getting hits for MMI were: Matthew Marfice, Caleb Squires, Taylor Clemmons, Austin Garofalo, Samuel Clement, and Casey Page.

Game two in Monroeville, Alabama went in favor of Marion with a 9-2 decision.  Jarrett Carter got the win, working four innings.  He surrendered four hits, two runs (one earned), and a walk while striking out two Eagle batters.  Justin Orr pitched one inning iin relief, striking out two of three batters faced.  Caleb Squires went 2-for-3 from the plate with a homerun, two runs scored and three RBI.  Taylor Clemmons also had two hits in three at-bats with a double, two RBI and two runs.  Ryne Benson and David Sweat followed with two hits each.  They both scored a run while Sweat recorded two RBI.  Austin Garofalo, Casey Page, and Cole Beck also had hits for Marion in the win.

Game three saw the only loss for the Tigers in the four game series as they dropped a 5-4 decision.  Marquez Oates took the loss from the mound.  In four innings of work he gave up seven hits, four runs (two earned) while striking out two.  Also seeing action in relief were Bradley Brown and Coleton BarnesMatthew Marfice and Caleb Squires led Marion at the plate with two hits apiece.  Marfice had a homerun, scored three runs and finished with two RBI.  Brett Barbee, David Sweat, and Taylor Clemmons also had hits for MMI.

Game four saw Marion take control of the four game series, winning 13-3 in five innings.  Troy Jones earned the win, working four innings on the mound.  He gave up four hits, three runs (two earned) and two walks while striking out three batters.  Coleton Barnes threw one inning in relief.  He gave up just one hit while striking out a batter.   Cole Beck led Marion's offensive attack, going a perfect 4-for-4 from the plate.  He scored two runs and finished with three RBI.  Austin Garofalo, Caleb Squires, Jacob Presley, and William Lenoir also registered hits in the win.

The MMI Tigers will host Coastal Alabama Community College-East Tuesday, February 20, at Scott G. Davis Stadium.  Game one of the doubleheader is scheduled to start at 12:00 p.m.
