Baseball Earns Four Game Sweep at Home

The MMI Tigers collected four wins at home this past weekend, sweeping Spoon River College 6-0, 10-0, 4-0, and 13-3.

Game 1 Recap (6-0) -  Conner Bell, sophomore LHP, earned the win in game for MMI working five innings.  He allowed three hits and two walks while striking out four batters.  Alex Weeks pitched two innings in relief, giving up just two hits with two strikeouts.

Sophomores Logan Taylor and Logan Nix each went 2-for-3 from the plate.  Nix doubled and recorded one RBI; Taylor had 2 RBI's.  Caleb Squires and Phillip Lenoir finished with two hits each on four attempts.  Derrik Turner went 1-for-2 with a double and a run scored.  Gardy Sanchez and Landon Sartain also gots hits for MMI.  

Game 2 Recap (10-0) - Game 2 ended in the 5th inning when MMI jumped out to the 10-0 lead.  Logan Nix went 2-for-2 with an RBI and two runs scored.  Caleb Squires, Jordan Smith, Bryan Sanderson, and Alex Weeks also recorded hits.

Brett Lightsey earned the win.  In four innings of work, he allowed two hits and two walks with five strikeouts.  Tanner Wallace pitched one inning of relief with no hits and runs and two strikeouts.

Game 3 Recap (4-0) - Jacob Phillips got the start on the mound in game three and gave up one hit and one walk in five innings.  Dylan Oliver worked two innings in relief and struck out four batters while giving up no hits or walks.

Getting hits for Marion was Gardy Sanchez, Logan Taylor, Logan Nix, Andrew Robertson, and Jordan Smith.  Taylor blasted his second homerun of the season in the victory.

Game 4 Recap (13-3) - Spoon River took their first lead of the series when they scored twice in the first inning and once in the top of the second inning.  MMI's bats exploded in the bottom of the second inning giving the Tigers an 8-3 lead.  Marion added five more runs to end the game in the fifth inning.

Gardy Sanchez and Andrew Roberston both finished 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the offense.  Sanchez scored three times and had an RBI; Robertson crossed the plate three times with three RBI's.  Landon Sartain had a double with two RBI's and scored twice.  Logan Taylor scored once, recorded a hit and an RBI.  Jordan Smith went 1-for-2 with a run scored.  Ryne Benson had a hit in three at-bats with two runs and an RBI.  Mickey Forrest added a double and three RBI's.  He also scored once in the lopsided win.

Ryan Burkett, Mason Hollander, and Phillip Goodwin all saw action on the mound for MMI, now 9-3 on the season.

The Tigers will travel to Mississippi for a doubleheader at Pearl River CC on March 7th and then face Mississippi Gulf Coast on March 8th.
