Baseball Drops Three of Four to Jackson State CC

The MMI baseball team had a rough weekend series against Jackson State Community College, dropping three of the four games played.  The lone win came Friday afternoon in game two of the four game series with Lane Dickerson starting on the mound.  Freshman Caleb Squires got the Tigers on the scoreboard first when he blasted an opposite field grand slam in the bottom of the first inning, scoring Phillip Lenoir, Landan Sartain, and Logan Taylor.

Marion added one more run in the next inning.  Gardy Sanchez started the inning off with a base hit.  Alex Weeks sacrificed Sanchez to second.  Logan Nix reached first after being hit by a pitch and then Lenoir doubled to bring Sanchez in across the plate.

In the fifth inning, the Tigers added three more runs to extend the lead to 8-0.  With two outs, Nix walked and Lenoir was hit by the pitcher. Sartain followed with an infield hit to load the bases for Taylor.  He doubled to plate two more runs.  Squires added another hit to add the Tiger's final run of the game.  Jackson State CC scored three runs in the sixth inning but couldn't get any closer.

Pitching in relief in the win were William Reaves, Phillip Goodwin, Jacob Phillips and Peyton Upchurch.

The Tigers will travel to Montgomery, Alabama Wednesday, March 1, to face Huntingdon College.  First pitch is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
