Baseball Starts 2017 Season 4-0

The Marion Military Institute baseball team has started the 2017 season with four straight wins.  The Tigers defeated Point University 7-3 and 13-5 last week in the team's first doubleheader. 

In the first game against Point, Landon Sartain and Derrik Turner each had two hits.  Sartain scored once and recorded an RBI.  Logan Taylor, Caleb Squires, Andrew Robertson, Alex Weeks, Gardy Sanchez, and Jordan Smith also had hits for MMI in the win.  Sophomore Lane Dickerson started on the mound for the Tigers.  In three innings, he gave up two hits, two runs (none earned) with three walks and three strikeouts.  Sophomore Ryan Burkett pitched four innings in relief, giving up one hit, one run, and one walk while striking out seven batters.

In game two, sophomore pitcher Conner Bell worked the first four innings.  He gave up one hit and one base on balls with three strikeouts.  Working an inning each were freshmen Peyton Upchurch, William Reaves, Dylan Oliver, and Jacob PhillipsLogan Taylor had the hot bat for Marion, finishing 4-for-5 from the plate with four RBI's.  He scored once.  Jordan Smith and William Lenoir added three hits apiece.  Smith scored three runs; Lenoir scored twice. Brett Lightsey  had two hits in three plate appearances with one run scored and one RBI.  Also getting hits for Marion were Ryne Benson, Logan Nix, and Mickey Forrest.

Yesterday, MMI defeated the junior varsity squad from Stillman College 11-1 and 6-2.
