Tigers Split with Wallace State in First Doubleheader of Series

Hanceville, AL. - The MMI Tigers split a doubleheader at Wallace State Community College Wednesday evening.  Marion took game one 8-1, but came up short in game two, 2-4.

Game 1

Blake Teel earned the win for Marion, pitching seven innings.  He gave up five hits, one walk, and one run while striking out four batters.  Jesse Wheeler and Jackson Cofer eached worked a scoreless inning in relief.

MMI took the lead in the second inning, scoring two runs.  They added five more in the third inning to take a commanding eight run lead.  The Lions from WSCC scored their only run in the sixth inning.  Logan Taylor, Jackson Cofer, and Chase Hamrick each had three hits in the win.  Taylor scored twice and Cofer once with three RBIs.  Carson McGregory finished 2-for-5, scoring one run and recording two runs batted in.  Also collecting hits for Marion were Jonah Todd, Zachary Neumann, Landon Sartain, Logan Nix, and James Mills.

Game 2

Wallace State plated four runs in the fourth inning, all unearned, to take their first lead of the evening in game two.  The Tigers rallied with two runs in the fifth inning but couldn't get any closer.  Carson McGregory and Landon Sartain each went 1-for-3 in the loss.  Sartain and Jackson Cofer crossed the plate for the Tigers.

Lane Dickerson pitched a gem for Marion, working 3.2 innings.  He gave up three hits, four runs (zero earned), two walks while striking out four.  Chad Robinson and Hunter Orr saw action in relief.

Marion (29-12-1; 9-9) and Wallace State (26-17; 10-8) will complete their four game series with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 23.  First pitch of game one is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. at the Scott G. Davis Stadium.
