Baseball Splits on the Road Against Central Alabama CC

ALEXANDER CITY, Alabama – The Marion Military Institute baseball team took away one win in its doubleheader against Central Alabama Community College on Thursday afternoon. In what was scheduled to be a nine and a seven-inning contest, Marion lost game one, 9-5 in nine innings, before rallying to a 3-2 victory in eight innings in game two.

Marion trailed in game one, 5-2, after the first inning of play.  CACC plated two more runs in the second and fourth innings to keep the game out of reach for the Tigers.  Marion scored once in the third, fourth, and fifth innings.

Freshman Dax Winningham started on the mound for Marion but only lasted two-thirds of an inning.  He surrendered four hits, five runs, and a walk.  Chad Robinson, Dalton Pollard, Kyle Sloan, and J. P. Ratliff saw action in relief for the Tigers.  

Samuel Farley finished the game hitting 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Matthew Duncan went 2-for-5 with one run scored. Also getting hits for MMI were Alex Reyna, Jonah Todd, Yancey Foster, and Christopher Brannon.  Carson McGregory recorded a double, his 12th of the season.  He was also walked twice and scored twice. 

GAME 2 – MMI 3, CACC 2 (Final – 8 innings)

Game two remained scoreless before both teams plated one run each in the seventh inning.  Marion scored twice in the top of the eighth inning and then held the Trojans to just one run in the bottom half to secure the victory.

Freshman hurler Blake Teel pitched five scoreless innings, giving up just two hits and striking out one batter.  Andrew Mask and Gabriel Nevala worked in relief for the Tigers.  Mask allowed two hits and one run while Nevala walked two, struck out two, and gave up an unearned run.

Jonah Todd went 3-for-4 from the plate with an RBI.  Matthew Duncan scored once, recording three hits on four plate appearances.  Justin Bisharat went 2-for-4 with two runs.  Alex Reyna  had two hits for Marion in five plate appearances.  Carson McGregory, Samuel Farley, and Chase Hamrick also finished with one hit apiece. 

MMI is now 28-17 on the year, 14-10 in North ACCC play, heading into its final four games of the season. The Tigers will host Central Alabama CC for its Sophomore Day on Saturday, May 2, at Scott G. Davis Field.  Game one of the doubleheader is scheduled to start at 12:00 p.m.
