Tigers Take Three of Four From Snead State

The Marion Military Institute Baseball team was in action over the weekend as they were trying to solidify their place in the upcoming ACCC Conference Tournament. They played host to the Snead State Community College Parsons Thursday afternoon for the first of a two-game series.

The first game on Thursday was one in which the Tigers were out-hit by the Parsons ten to five.  Marion was able to capitalize on their hits and take a 5-1 victory.  The hits were scattered with Alex Reyna, Steven Ward, Carson McGregory, Christopher Brannon, and Zachary Neumann each collecting one apiece.  Neumann finished with two RBIs while Brannon and Ward registered one each.  Freshman Blaine Milam got the win from the mound, working five and a third innings.   He gave up five hits, one run, and two walks while striking out one batter.  Sophomore Andrew Mask pitched three and two-thirds innings in relief, giving up four hits and no runs.  He also struck out one batter.

In game 2 on Thursday, Marions' bats came alive as they registered eleven hits for a 7-2 win.  Matthew Duncan led the offensive with three hits in four plate appearances, including a triple.  He also finished with two RBIs.  Alex Reyna, Jonah Todd, and Steven Ward each finished with two hits.  Ward also had two RBIs while Reyna and Todd scored twice.  Samuel Farley and Zachary Neumann went one-for-two with Neumann crossing the plate twice.  Justin Bisharat and Carson McGregory contributed with an RBI apiece.  Freshman Blake Teel earned the win, pitching a complete game.  He allowed six hits and two runs while striking out three Parson batters.

The series final two games were played on the campus of Snead State CC Monday afternoon after Saturday's affairs were postponed due to inclimate weather. MMI took a 2-0 lead into the bottom of the fifth inning before the Parsons plated five runs, enough to take their first victory of the series.  Steven Ward went three-for-five with a double and one run scored to lead the Tigers.  Matthew Duncan and Christopher Brannon each finished with two hits on four plate appearances.  Duncan scored once while Brannon recorded two RBIs.  Also getting hits for Marion were Zachary Neumann, Carson McGregory, and Alez Reyna.  Sophomore Daniel Faulk got the loss, giving up seven hits, five runs, and three walks in four and two-thirds inning of work.  He also struck out four batters.  Terrance Robinson, Chad Robinson, and Jesse Wheeler saw action in relief for Marion.

Marion plated nine runs and scattered ten hits in the final game to claim a 9-4 decision and the series.  Joe Hudson worked three and two-thirds innings for the Tigers, giving up four runs (one earned) on four hits and two walks.  Andrew Mask pitched a scoreless three and a third innings in relief, scattering two hits and one walk.  He also struck out two hitters.  Alex Reyna went three-for-four at the plate with four RBIs and one run scored.  Carson McGregory went two-for-four with two RBIs.  Steven Ward, Matthew Duncan, Christopher Brannon, Zachary Neumann, and Jackson Cofer each had a hit in the win.  Ward and Duncan also scored once each and registered an RBI.  Newman scored twice.  Brannon and Cofer also scored while teammate Samuel Farley collected an RBI.

With the three wins, the Tigers improved to 27-16 on the season, 13-9 in the ACCC North.  Marion will finish the regular season with a four game series against Central Alabama Community College and a make-up doubleheader against Wallace State Community College-Hanceville.
