Tigers Split with Lawson State

Marion, AL. - The MMI Tigers split the final doubleheader with Lawson State Community College Saturday afternoon to remain tied with the Cougars in ACCC North baseball action.

In game one Marion jumped out early, scoring four runs in the first inning.  They came back in the next inning with five more runs.  They scored one more in the fifth inning to claim the 10-0 run-ruled victory.  Jonah Todd, Steven Ward and Samuel Farley all went two-for-three from the plate.  Todd and Ward scored two runs apiece for Marion, now 20-13 overall and 6-6 in ACCC North Conference play.  Farley scored twice and registered two RBIs.  Carson McGregory finished with two hits on two plate appearances.  He scored twice and had one RBI.  Matthew Duncan, Yancey Foster, Jackson Cofer, and Alex Reyna also collected hits in the victory.

Sophomore hurler, Daniel Faulk, started on the mound for the Tigers.  He did not allow a hit in five innings of work.  He walked and struck out three Lawson batters.

In game two, Marion and Lawson battled to a 3-3 tie after seven innings.  Lawson plated two runs in the top of the eighth inning. Marion could not put together a rally of their own and fell to the Cougars 5-3.  Alex Reyna went two-for-four with one run scored.  Jackson Cofer finished two-for-three at the plate with one run scored.  Steven Ward had a double on three plate appearances.  Justin Bisharat went one-for-three with a double and an RBI.  Matthew Duncan and Samuel Farley also had hits for Marion in the loss.

Blake Teel worked five innings as the starting pitcher for the Tigers in game two.  He gave up five hits and three runs (one earned), while walking three and striking out one batter.  Terrance Robinson relieved Teel, working three innings.  He gave up two hits, two runs (none earned) while striking out one.

Marion will travel to Decatur, Alabama to face Calhoun Community College Thursday afternoon.
