Hudson Pitches MMI Baseball to Split Against Lawson State
Birmingham, AL. - The MMI baseball team lost 3-0 on Thursday afternoon in the first game of a doubleheader against Lawson State Community College.
Lawson plated three runs in the sixth inning to take the lead and eventual victory. The Tigers could not produce any runs, scattering six hits in the loss. Matthew Duncan led Marion's offense, finishing two-for-three at the plate. Zachary Neumann went one-for-three, while Jackson Cofer and Steven Ward both had one hit each.
Blaine Milam earned the start for the Tigers. He worked 5.2 innings, giving up three hits, three runs (none earned), and one walk while striking out two batters. Dax Winingham relieved Milam, giving up just one hit while striking out two batters in 2.1 innings of work.
Marion won the second game 3-0 behind a strong pitching effort from sophomore Joe Hudson. Hudson threw a complete game, surrendering three hits, one run, and two walks while striking out five.
Marion took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning before Lawson rallied for a run in the second inning to keep the game within reach. The Tigers scored once more in the fifth inning and relied on Hudson to shut Lawson's hitters down, securing the ACCC North Division win.
Steven Ward finished a perfect four-from-four at the plate. He also scored a run. Matthew Duncan stayed hot, going two-for-four with one RBI and one run. Carson McGregory also had two hits on three plate appearances and an RBI. Samuel Farley and Justin Bisharat each went one-for three for the Tigers. Bisharat also registered an RBI.
Marion will host Lawson State Saturday afternoon for the final doubleheader of their four game series. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
Alma took advantage of an error in the third inning to score three of its six runs in the frame. Kalamazoo chipped away with two runs in the fourth and one in the fifth and sixth innings to make it a 6-4 game. The Hornets put two runners on in the seventh with one out, but were unable to push any more runs across.
Kalamazoo outhit Alma 9-7 in the game, but the Hornets left six runners on base.
Joey Aliotta and John Jackoviak each homered in the game. Jackoviak finished 2-for-3.
Ian Kobernick was 2-for-3 with a double. Carter Chandler also doubled in the game.
